Everyone wants a safer community

We see things that scare us on the news almost every day and we want someone to DO SOMETHING about it. One of those things is sex crimes and that is the one that causes us to be here. The purpose of SCRSOL is to educate – mainly the general public. But we also hope to specifically educate legislators, victims of crimes, and the people who commit them. Through examining research, engaging in open and honest discussions, and offering solutions, we intend to give all readers a better understanding of these crimes and their impacts. It is also our goal to arm the people on both sides of these crimes with solutions that bring about healing and a better future. We believe that the responses to these crimes are just as important as efforts to reduce them. Those responses often have a great impact on the families of both survivors and offenders for many years.

Much of our focus is on sex offender registries. Registries were created at a time when we had very little understanding of sexual offenses and those who commit them. A lot of misinformation was used to justify them. But now we know that in the thirty years that we have used registries, they haven’t made us any safer. In fact, some of the laws that are attached to registries actually make us less safe. Ultimately, they cause a lot more damage to more and more lives, especially to those who were not involved in any crime.

We welcome you to the website. We invite you to explore and learn. We offer encouragement and compassion to all those who are hurting as a result of sexual crimes. In the end, we hope that you will gain a desire to help us make this world of ours a better, more loving and safer place – for all
